My father in-law gave us his childhood school desk along with the rust and chewing gum under the desk top from 1960. I decided to refinish it and take some pictures along the way. I brushed every nook and cranny on ever metal piece. Including hinge parts, bolts, nuts, & screws. I painted all the metal pieces with a high temp black gloss for a glossy hard finish. Then I lightly sanded all the wood in an effort to keep all the scratched, dings, & ware marks. To finish the wood I added 2 coats of antique oil. I spent a lot of time on the the details and tinny areas in the hope that this desk will last another 50 yeas.
